All right.

I finally got my Razar Stealth Blackwidow keyboard, and I'm happy with it and with the low weight needed to activate the keys. It makes my tendonitus just that much less aggravating. And it's as silent as I'd hoped that it would be. I'm also grateful to finally have function keys again, and some of the navigation and short cut keys that the Happy Hacker does not have.

Which isn't to say that I don't love the Happy Hacker for its capabilities when I'm writing code, but it is not the easiest thing to use when a lot of the game keys are function keys. And on the HH they take two key hits instead of one, so it's Not Good for reflex work. Yes, I know that I could reprogram it, but this just seemed a whole lot easier, and there was no way on earth I'd give up mechanical switches. The Razar ones are quite nice to the touch, too.

I know... updating more than once in a week... it's insane... )

I've earned a new habit this winter. Walking in the cold.

It started during the time before Christmas, when the days were short, the nights long, and the neighborhood had all the pretty lights out. The temperatures would get down into the single digits, and I'd be out there anyway, usually when there was no wind to add to the chill factor, and loved seeing the lights and walking out where no one was.

I had my thick wool cowl, my down jacket, my handspun mittens, and a wool hat that I'd bought on one of our innertube sledding trips out into the mountains. Thick wool with a brim to keep the sun out. Though I didn't have to worry about the sun today. It was overcast and cold.

And it was beautiful... )

I've been loving the precipitation, lately. The slow fall of snow has been an amazing balm, and it's turned the whole world white. We're supposed to have three nights straight of this, and I can only hope.

We're finally getting the snow we should be getting in March and April... cut for pictures and details. )

Snow Day!

Yesterday, Jet's school district had a snow day in anticipation of the 6-8 inches of snow that was supposed to fall here. Given that the temps were in the high 60's the day before, most of the snow that fell on the sidewalks and streets melted and all the roads were clear. But the snow did fall for most of the day.

Jet summed it up, however, when he said, "It's no fair! Getting a snow day, but not getting enough snow to even sled in!"

I regain some lung capacity and get paid to do cool stuff... )

Suffice to say that life's been insane up to this point. *laughs* Good. Very good, but utterly insane.

I added to the insanity, today, by driving 90 miles each way to Monument, CO, and meeting up with [livejournal.com profile] 2metaldog and Tam, the friend she was staying with, AND making it back home in time for a very intense time with my eye doctor about my eye problems.

Nothing graphic... just shortening up for friend lists. )

A few years ago we went to Frasier Hill, up in Winter Park, and we discovered that inner-tubing can be a lot of fun, especially down a huge hill that's icy with packed snow and actual rope lifts to do the hard part of hauling oneself and the tube back up the hill.

John planned it in detail. The battle plan included going the night before, getting to Fraiser Hill by 10 am, when the place opened, tubing as much as we could before the skiers quit skiing, and then going home once we were completely exhausted.

His plan worked. )

We've been busy, which probably surprises no one. *laughs* It's funny to write it all down and realize all that I've been doing when I thought I was getting "nothing" done... *laughs*

What more could one want?

It snowed two or three inches last night. Enough to make things a little slick, but not enough to stop anything or keep anyone from doing what they wanted to do. It was all just a little slower.

Since it was Late Start Day (first Wednesday of every month), I thawed some beignet dough and made them for breakfast for us. Jet loves that, as do we, though the powder sugar clouds do go everywhere. Rather than starting two and a half hours late, though, he had a Green Club meeting an hour before school started. It's a club where the kids figure out how to do things to help the environment for the school and with the help of the school staff. They've run a recycle shoes campaign, worked with them on a Zero Waste Lunch week, and have other things they've planned.

It's pretty cool.

So we dropped him off for his Club meeting and then wandered off on a little food adventure.

Snow Day

Yesterday it was 60° outside, today there's 10" of snow and the fluffy white stuff is still falling down. DIA is flailing, so folks flying through Colorado are having lots of problems. Jet's school didn't close this morning, but he's still on the mend, so we decided not to let him go to school. He's still got a little fever, and it's better to be safe than to infect a lot of other kids, too; though, given that he succumbed to it after the Kids Night Out, he may well have exposed dozens of other kids that night. Oops.

I'm sick. I definitely have Jet's thing, and it went right for my lungs. I'm now very, very grateful for my asthma medications as I'm breathing with very little trouble. Jet's better. His temperature went down from 102 to about 99, now, and it seems to be stable. He's doing homework and getting things out of the way and really, really, really wants to go out in the snow. I think that would have been unthinkable just a day or so ago, so I think he's definitely on the mend.

So I'm mostly doing the hot liquids and lying down a lot. The last season of Avatar was really, really, really good. Both Jet and I really enjoyed it all at once, really, and it kept our minds off of being sick, so that was really fun.

Cut for spoilers, but the series is so old.... )

We have four inches of snow this morning. 28 degrees.... and the quaking aspens still have green leaves!

The boys are out sledding. Jet is just so excited!

It's supposed to be 60 tomorrow. *laughs* Colorado weather...

SNOW DAY!

Three days ago the high was 72° (22° C). This morning we woke up to 6 inches of snow and more coming down. The predictions for the last several days has been that there might be up to a foot of snow; but the predictions also said that the snow wouldn't fall for real until 6pm tonight. *laughs*

It is, of course, a snow day. And Jet's home building an ENORMOUS Lego kit we gave him for Christmas. Whew.

I am amused that his biggest worry was about the fact that he might not be able to return his library books for Spring Break.

There's a whole foot of it out there now, and the wind's picked up and we can't even see the neighbor's house for how much snow is blowing around.
