I think the television thing is more like guidelines than actual rules. And I think that the effects vary from kid to kid anyway. Robert didn't watch a lot of Saturday morning cartoons when he was little, but they all started watching Saturday morning cartoons a couple years ago. I noticed that Kate would beg for chocolate-coated sugar bombs while we were grocery shopping, but Josh was too young (didn't have enough vocabulary), and Robert almost never went grocery shopping with me, so I didn't notice it in the boys. Kate also pleaded and begged for a certain Care-a-lot Care Bear for her birthday last year, and I'm sure that she saw it on tv. On the other hand, Robert pores over the Lego catalogs, comics and magazines that arrive every other month and he asks for things he reads about in those.
