Somehow,I was able to let go of the specificity of the details of some of the really large projects. But I was always more of an intuitive, rather than a sensing type, so that was probably easier for me. I'm happier with the ideas that I am with exactly how to implement them.
That said, however, I really did need more of that time alone to recharge than I was getting. It was also pretty evident in my style at work, which involved sticking to my cubicle unless I had to make it to a meeting or find someone for something specific. John, who is an extrovert extraordinaire, was always wondering about the hallways talking things through with people unless he absolutely had to write code for something specific. Then he could sit down and do that, but he always had his ear to the ground to figure out the rumblings of what was coming next.
I couldn't do that, but I was able to do a lot of intense one-on-one with folks that really needed persuading. So I was doing more of the spot checking. Different styles for different means. Between us, everything got covered. I'm not exactly sure I could've worked as well with someone who was the same as I was in that situation. It was a pretty clear case of one person's strengths backing up the other person's weaknesses.
I'm kind of glad that I don't have to find out. It's nice not having to work anymore.
