There were a lot of fascinating things Jevons said about how the capitalist experiments were working out, and how it's actually the people who had a criminal past who took advantage of the opportunities presented because they had nothing to lose so far as social status. The society frowns upon those that stand out, but ex-criminals who had been in jail had no face to lose in trying to make a lot of money. So a great deal of the country's free capital now lies in the hands of ex-criminals and that's starting to make a lot of interesting waves.

I want one of those people in one of my stories. *grins* They'd make a stunningly fun antagonist, I think. Especially since they're likely to jump on opportunities would make most sane people blanch.
