[livejournal.com profile] sarakate gave me a very, very cool commission in a very nicely constructed sock yarn.

It started with the mohair, which was to be a quarter of the fiber in the yarns. The pictures are the raw mohair from the left through to the teal stuff on the right.

She also picked a gorgeous roving (from Windwools, colorway 'peacock') to go with it:

Then I blended them together and pulled a pre-draft ball:

Finally, two shots of the S-plied skein, one close up, the other further away for the overall effect:

The coolest part of the commission comes next, in that I get to do the other skein the other way. Spin the singles S and then ply them together Z. That's opposite of nearly all the other spinning I've done, so it should be fun.

Hmmmm, gorgeous colors. I want to squish it between my fingers to see what it feels like. Does your commission include knitting the yarn into something?

In thinking over your postings the last couple of months it has just occurred to me that you must have one of those time machine thingies. You know the kind I mean, where you can be gone for three days and arrive back at the exact moment you left. It's the only possible explanation for the number of things you accomplish.

No no... [livejournal.com profile] sarakate is an excellent knitter, and her own attention to technical detail is what delighted me enough to want to spin for her. Something she wanted to knit prompted the yarn.

*laughter* about the time machine! Wow! I'd love to patent that. I think, sometimes, that it's just about how I write about things, maybe. That xyz happened and they kind of make sense written all together, but then d, e, o and n happened as well, in the hour between the other big stuff, and hey presto I've also got "done" in the works along with xyz.

The dyeing was last Thursday or so. The carding kind of got done at random minutes in between. The blending was when Jet was playing chess and checkers with everyone else and I got frustrated by my own inability to see jumps. Spinning happened when I HAD TO BE ALONE after everyone else went to sleep, and it as soothing and relaxing enough to let me sleep at night. Nice way to wind down a day, so to speak. *grin*

Knitting and spindling are highly portable art items. I spent most of the reincarnation classes working on the clapotis. *grin*
