The other day, on the way home from something, we asked Jet, "What do you want for lunch?"

He answered, "A particle accelerator."

We both were like WOW! Huh... you want a grilled cheese sandwich with that?

He and I were having a discussion about adulthood... and how teenagers got to be adults. He was pretty clear on the idea that once someone is 18 they're considered an adult.

Then he said, "You're only a parent when you have kids. Then you're not an adult anymore."

I think I have to concur with him.

I've been mildly depressed lately, but I've been trying to pull out of it. Doing something about it helps...

But it's amazing, after a 90° day how much my spirits are lifted through the simple reality of a rain fall at night. Cooling the air and the house. The sound of it on the aspens is nearly as amazing as the scent of water in the air.

The other day, Jet asked why we turn our clocks back.

"It's because we're going off Daylight Savings time and back onto regular time," John said, patiently.

"Oh..." Jet thought a bit. "You mean we're going onto Daylight Wasting time?"

"Uhm... not really, it's just Standard time, now."

"No. It's Daylight Wasting time, because we used to be Saving."

okay. *grins*

Yesterday John had a meeting he had to get to in the evening. And I was having a really crappy kind of day. I'd actually started well, with a ten mile ride and a good shower and some SamCham. But then it all went south due to some just... stupid stuff, really, partially my fault was some of the heartrending part of it. But I just shut everything off when I could and Jet took me to dinner at Noodles and Company.

We ordered, sat down, did a little potty going dance, as one or the other of us watched our stuff, and when I came back we had our food. I got mac and cheese because I was feeling like comfort food, and Jet had his buttered noodles with seasoning as he always did. Some things cannot change.

As meal conversation, we talked a little bit about the fact that Momma was feeling cranky, and I asked Jet, "Well, what do you think I should do about it?"

He thought a bit, tilted his head and said, "Well, one, maybe you should do less computer work, 'cause sometimes it frustrates you. Two, you could always just stop thinking about what it is that makes you so cranky. And, we're doing the third thing I could think of, which is to eat. Can't think of much more than that to stop you from being so cranky."

I nodded. "Do you think ice cream after dinner would help, too?"

"Oh, yeah. That always helps," he said with a smile.

Jet, when we were in the Badlands, would point out a different path up or down the cliffs and say, "THAT is the path to certain destruction."

We also discussed the opening sequence of Indiana Jones and the Lost Arc for like an hour, in detail, with graphic positioning of exactly what happened, what didn't happen, what was movie magic, and what should have happened when the ball rolled down. The hazards of being in a car for hours with a seven-year-old with the same attention to detail and plausibility that both his parents have. I think it would have driven nearly anyone else insane.

I'm glad we're family. *laughs* I think anyone else would have killed us.

It's summer. It's official now. We've made our first real ice cream.

Using a real vanilla bean, real cream from the local dairy (not ultrapasturized or ultra homogonized so it clumps just a bit, beautifully, and has that incredible mouth feel when frozen), two eggs, a touch of sugar, and a bit of time and attention over the stove and cooling off before being put into the freezer.

The freezer was well frozen, too, as the paddles did stop and reverse eventually. So it was frozen really nicely. We had the real ice cream with fresh raspberries. It's definitely summer.

Jet has a new saying when things get rough. "Oh dear," he says.

Then John started saying, "Oh dear, the driver sheep forgets to steer." It's from Sheep in a Jeep, a board book that we've read since Jet was like 2. So now ALL of us are saying the whole thing and giggling like mad whenever video games, card games, whatever goes bad.

We're packing like mad today. Tomorrow we leave on vacation. So I'll probably see folks on the other side of that. I might post from there and read a little, but probably not keep up the way I usually do. Just so folks know.

I hope everyone had a good Mothers' Day!!

I did. *grin*

It started with a pancake breakfast given to me by my two boys, and it was very, very good. They enjoyed it, too. Jet made me a card and a Crackpots hand painted mirror that is just beautiful. John got me a wonderful card.

And I was teasing Jet a little about little boys being made of snakes and snails and puppy dog tails and girls being made of sugar and spice and everything nice. And he looked at me and said, "No, Mom, they're made out of *cells*". I had to admit that he was right.

I like candles, 'cause they're a bit of the Light of God.

They're not GOD, but even when all the candles look different, they're all a part of the Light of God. So if you put all the candles together, you'd get something that looks like the Light of God. They're all different colors, sizes, and shapes, but they all have the light of God in 'em.
