it is *totally* McCaffrey. I think I blogged about this but you have beings who fly through the air, on wings, because of genetic engineering, who have to have human partners, who live in large communal higg places with unusual architecture, for whom music is important... I love the books, and it's not McCaffrey writing - but if you abstract out the elements they are startlingly alike ;-)
