Of the five I drew, these three are... kinda there. *grin* One of the five was just an eye... another was just the curve of wing. These are mostly there, but just pencil sketches, no ink or colors, still very, very rough... I still don't get the bodies quite *right* yet. There's still proportioning that I'm getting wrong, and it feels... odd, still. I'm getting somewhere with it, but it's step by step...

Yes, Faber has his three day scruff on. Hmph.

And, yes, the latter sketch has written over it... "I have a problem with your soteriology. Can we talk about it?" *grin* A suggestion from our pastor when the Jehovah's Witnesses come by. I will keep that question close to my heart. *grin*

Date: 2008-01-14 09:14 pm (UTC)The wings were what I wanted, most, to capture, and I think the smaller drawing was better at it than the bigger one. I have to figure that out.
So many angel wings are just too small for my brain to think of as them lifting someone. So...
Yeah, I'm still not good at drawing bodies from my brain rather than from a picture or something else. I still have to work at getting that to feel right. If I keep practicing I'll get better.

Date: 2008-01-14 09:28 pm (UTC)Drawing bodies from pictures a lot, or from photos, is probably the only "proper" way to be able to draw them in one's head, if that makes sense? It allows internalization of the proportions and whatnot. (I was talking about this with my kid -- she drew a "nude" (after some discussion about artistic nudes versus prurient ones), and then another, and I was showing her the "five heads high" thing, and the proportions of body to leg, and pointing out where hands usually were if they were down by the leg, and whatnot. So it's on my braaaaaain!)
And with angels, the most important part is the fwooshy wings. O:D

Yes, I think you're right. I just have to keep drawing and drawing and eventually I'll get it right. It took me a few times to get the face to even be face-ish the way I wanted, so I'm progressing, bit by bit and it's fun.
I just need to keep doing it, I think.
Yay for small pictures being cool!! Yeah, that makes a lot of sense, that there's more room for error, then.

Date: 2008-01-15 04:22 pm (UTC)When something grabs me it's hard to let go, and at the moment, drawing a lot from manga has been very good. I need to get brave enough to ink, sometime, too.
I have a medium-range goal of being able to draw all the Fruit Basket moms on one page, grin, inked and all and send it as fan art to them from a mom. *grin*

But, yay! Fruits Basket Moms! Though this does give me the idea that I could do all the moms by themselves and then put 'em together on the computer to balance them out better and snip so that the others fit, rather than trying to put them all on one page and ink them all on one page. *grin*
Hey! I have an Epson printer that takes the same kind of ink! Woohoo!
