Did orchids today...

This is the last of four. You can see the other three if you click this one and scroll through the paintings on flickr.

While I'm much happier with how the leaves turned out, the flower and the progression of gray on the flowers still isn't that good, yet. And I don't like the shape of the flower on this one, either. Grump, gripe.

But it's better than the first ones, and it's fun to keep a progression of them. Plus, I used bottled ink for the first time in a while, and I don't like the color of it as much as what I get when I grind the ink for myself. (okay, it amuses me that I used that fact in a fic for June).

I like the smooth strokes of the leaves though. And it's interesting to see the progression.

Agreed. The leaves are beautiful. The rest of it's pretty good too. :)

Ooo, pretty. (And I love the icon choice!) (They're all pretty, actually! I even kinda like the flowers you hate! O:D (Though flower 2 probably is the best.)

I like the way you use the page, shows an instinctive understanding of composition and your long strokes are really lovely.

Are you changing brushes when you do the flower? I think a small pointed round would serve you well there. ;)

Hee. The icon! I was going to use it for my spring_kink writing icon... but it fit... though he draws bunnies like Rukia. *giggles*

Oddly enough it felt much better going nearly a third up the last page... I wanted the length... and that balanced it somehow.

Not sure why. *laughs!!*

Yeah, I like how the long strokes smoothed out with practice and invoked the leaves better, I think.

I use the same brush. In a way I'm "supposed" to by traditional technique. I'm having trouble getting the tip to flow right on all but the first of the petals, I think. I'm not turning it the way I'm supposed to. I'm using what's classified for Asian brush work, as a hard tip brush. I just don't have the control I want of it, yet.
