Hee. It was one of my favorites, too. I love a lot of her books, but the Liralen, itself... I picked it because of the dual nature of the creature, and folks now call me Liralen in real life, too.
Most of the long-term Internet friends I list all call me Liralen when we meet, so it's... pretty much my name now.
Yeah. I've been spinning for a long time. I started when there were no good lace yarns in order to do my Shetland style wedding ring shawls. I love drop spindles. I love knitting right off the spindle (http://www.flickr.com/photos/liralenli/2093939708/in/set-72157601330561650/), it makes for some wonderful color flows. But my work horse of a spinning wheel (http://www.flickr.com/photos/liralenli/367060715/in/set-72157601330561650/) is a handmade double-drive, double-wheeled thing of production beauty. It's my second wheel and took me a good two years to get to the point where I could use it for real. I've actually spun for money, but found it... frustrating in some ways.
Yes, you can definitely tell me that you're glad I'm not under 30. May I say the same of you? *grin* And 2metaldog for that matter. Nothing at all wrong with being under 30, just... nice to have someone to share stuff with that isn't. *grin*
