I fear I might start to get repetitive if I commented on each fic individually, so I'm combining comments on several fics here. As always, I love your writing, even when I either don't like or don't understand what is going on in the fic. Actually, I think I'm even more aware of how much I like your style in these cases! Nevertheless, I'm pleased to report that I don't dislike any of the eight I've read so far.
In fact, two--"Fighting the Odds" and "Catch a Flying Star"--I adored. "Fighting the Odds" was such a romp; I would be insanely thrilled to see more crossovers in this timeline/AU 'verse. The opening fight was awesome, and the binding was hot and heavy in ways that had little to do with sex and yet quite a bit to do with scene. I loved the blend of crack comedy (e.g. Ulquiorra during the poker game) and serious emotion (Sanzo-tachi realizing just what was of Ulquiorra's nature was being repressed once the limiters came off), and I loved that you pulled it off without a feeling of mood whiplash. Perhaps best of all were the parts that blended all of the above, for example Ulquiorra's trying to figure out the foursome's power relations and where he fit into them: simultaneously hilarious and heartbreaking, and altogether amazing.
"Catch a Flying Star" was also a treat, albeit in different ways. I loved it from Renji's palpable discomfort/relief at Byakuya's conditional approval through Rukia and Renji's intertwining reiatsues at dawn, and several points in between (food handouts, Renji watching Rukia enjoy the fruit--and the aftermath of that moment, the punch!, Rukia's demands during sex, etc.). I was delighted by the dance bewteen Renji's hesitation and wanting to be good enough and Rukia's impatience and wanting to simply be accepted as she was, and I was thrilled both by the fact that she got her way and by her agressiveness in making sure that Renji understood the deal.
As I mentioned elsewhere, some of your Bleach fic makes me realize I need to know more about Bleach canon in order to fully understand/appreciate it. Specifically, "Babysitting," "Not Really Lies," and "An Answer of Sorts" fall into this category, especially the latter two. There were moments I liked in each of these fics--the evident care Soi Fong and Yoruichi have for each other, the idea that Urahara not just shouldn't doubt himself but actually had no right to, the image of either Yoruichi or Renji babysitting impressionable teenage girls--but overall they left me more confused than anything else. I plan to go back to them eventually, and I hope I'll have absorbed enough to give better feedback on them by that time.
Long comment is long 1/2
