Our neighborhood has a pool, and it's only open during the summer months. This last spring, they actually emptied it and relined the whole thing, and it's amazingly nice. I went swimming for the first time this year, and the water was warm and wonderful.

I did a full inspection of the top box of the hive two days ago, and have the pictures, but have been too lazy to post it. The garden is doing well, and the tomato plants are growing in their pots. The sugar snap peas are already a yard tall, and the spinach is all bolting already, even before I have the zucchini, basil, and tomatoes out.

I also lifted weights today, and got the boy to and from saber fencing. I had gone for a few months, but learned that my foil reflexes make for Very Bad Habits in saber. The boy has a fascination with British Tikka Masala lately, and we watched Heston Blumenthal's In Search of Perfection on that dish. There's a LOT there for us to figure out if we're going to pursue that version.

I wrote some today. Even with the boy around, and he and I played Team Fortress 2 for a good hour or so. One of his fifteen-year-old friends actually said that I make a pretty good Heavy. *laughs* Loved that. Nothing like getting complimented on video game play by a teenage boy.

Was social, went to a good bye potluck for a family that's moving to the Bay Area, and met a lot of people there we could talk to, and got out at a reasonable hour. While the boy and I watched Naruto, the sky cracked open with repeated webs of lightning followed by close thunder, and then the rain poured down on the very last of our laundry. *laughs* Rescued most of it, but I got soaking wet.

The pool sounds lovely!

Heston Blumenthal is always fun. Even when - especially when - his ideas are totally unfeasible by regular kitchen standards, there's just something so grandly glorious about the way he goes for the ideal and ignores all questions of scale or practicability.

It's always nice having the home owners association take care of the pool, so that we can just enjoy it. Life guards and everything

And, yes, you have caught Heston's charm entirely. *laughs* For this particular recipe, we were thinking the five foot deep hole in the backyard lined with fireproof brick might be just the perfect summer project.

Then again...

I do love that he went That Far.
