Ghost World

The world was a ghost world this morning.
Fog and dandruff flake snow obscured the world in pearlescent white, hiding horizons, curtaining distances, closing everything in. Thick frost blanketed pastures, buildings, fences, farmland, and roads in a grey-white hoar. All color leached away, leaving things pale and cold. A silver state trooper glided through the scatters of traffic, a shark, bright in the water with the muted flow of prey alongside. The only contrasts were the bare, black bones of leafless trees.
A White Christmas Eve...
... though it made me think more of the Chinese Netherworld from Feng Shui.
