Rain

The sky is clouding up and there's lightning along the horizon. I hope it rains. It's been in the eighties out here along the plains and it's been warm, warm, warm, and I'm wishing, hoping, praying for rain. Mmmm... rain. Spring showers. The gentle dew. SOMETHING WET!! to keep the dust down.

The fields are green, for the only time of the year they're going to be. Green and beautiful and growing like mad.

My tomato seeds, that I planted just last Thursday have burst from their shells and are growing frantically in the seed starting kit that Jet and I packed together. I poured water and dirt together, he packed each cell, tight, with potting soil, and then he watched as I poked a seed into each cell. I'm doing cherry tomatoes and an early, early version of Early Girl. The growing season here is so short, but Soooooo intense. It'll be cool to see what comes of it all.

My tequin pepper plant of the infamous bright red berries that Jet bit when he was a baby, are now a good eighteen inches tall, branched nicely, and survived my Mom, who thought pepper plants can't grow indoors. Whew.

Spring is bustin' out, and it's cool to see.

We've also got a seed-growing adventure going on. Most of them are in recycled cardboard flats (from which purple string beans and snap peas are bursing forth), but I got a 'system' to try out. It's got cells open on the bottom and an absorbent pad that sucks water from a reservoir up to the happy little seedlings. It's working out very nicely so far. Jimmy and Jack helped with the dirt, of course (it's half coconut coir, which is also working nicely), and Jimmy planted the beans. He's very proud that they're all growing.

That's cool!! Your starting system sounds exactly like mine, with the wicking matt and everything. It's much easier than spraying the dirt every day.

Jet's peering at the trays every day and goes all wide-eyed whenever he finds another plant. It's kind of a challange to keep him from pulling each one up from being so excited at finding them, but that's okay, as he does check 'em every day.

Was that enough rain for you? :)

Hee hee!

I think that Erie got a lot less than Longmont. But water is good!!

It was pretty cool to see the wetlands around the Xilinx building actually be wet!

I am, sadly, thinking more in terms of a whole month of rain every day. *grin* I'm spoiled by Seattle's rains and have extremely unreasonable wishes, I know.

The rain we did get was very, very nice!
