liralen: Finch Painting (leaf)

I'm safely here in Tennessee, and learning how to spell the state's name. *laughs* [livejournal.com profile] darkprism_fics picked me up from Ashville and brought me to somewhere around Jonesborough, TN, which used to be the capitol of the State of Franklin, one of those states that tried to get into the United States of America as the 14th state and never quite managed it due to a tiny war, politics, and other considerations. *laughs*

John showed me a show about how all the US states got their odd borders, all those little bits and drabs that one wonders why in the world did the line jog here? It was fun.

[livejournal.com profile] darkprism_fics and I got a very, very pleasant surprise on Monday, after she got me home, the publisher's chief editor wrote us to tell us that they really liked the story, that they'd be happy to work with us on changing one particular aspect of it, and were very, very encouraging about really wanting it after the change. So... yeah. It's looking good, though the change is pretty systemic, we have a strategy on how to go at it. And here I thought it was going to be a 'relaxing' trip. *grins* They only had it a week, and it sounds like at least two, perhaps three of their people read it through already so... uhm... yeah.

I don't know what to do with myself when I'm not working anyway, so... *dances about*.

As promised, I now have photos. *laughs* You can see them all here on my Flickr page, as I'm not probably going to go through my journal with them too much.

I slept in late as I'm not adjusted to Eastern Time and likely won't be in just four day's time. We mostly ran around today, getting a print out of the manuscript for [livejournal.com profile] darkprism_fics to edit/write on and to allow us to split the thing up into chunks so we can do the changes and rewrite, looking around at bookstores, getting shakes to drink at a park with a lake, and then going to her father and step-mother's house for dinner. Dinner was amazing country fried steak with mashed potatoes, gravy, and carrots. Yum. Dessert was a beautiful lemon and cherry frosted cake, and I got a taste of the smooth as silk peach moonshine that then made my stomach go, "Woah."

*laughs*

Very simple pleasures, on the most part today. The editor we were given wrote us back about our questions and did what feedback she could, and we have plenty to start on. Enough that we know what it is that we have to do and a pretty good idea on how to do it. So they've been very, very communicative, which has been very sweet.

It's been hot and humid here, but mostly been hiding in air conditioned rooms, cars, and houses. *laughs* So that's been very easy.

I need to call John and Jet, as Jet got braces today. It was something he was kind of both dreading and looking forward to, so... I'll get to see how he's doing.
