Yes. This is Jet looking FAR too compitent to be just six. He's in his construction get up, with tap measures, safety goggles, work gloves, and more. He is helping John and I build our raised garden boxes for the side yard, where there's southern exposure. He really loves building things, and he did a heroic job with dragging about wood, holding things while we were sawing, screwing things together, and generally putting it all up.

This was our first warm Spring Sun kind of day in a bit, and it was actually in the 50's! Woohoo! But we had a great day just building things and Jet loved using his tools.

My Construction Barrier Socks

These are my Construction Site Socks... actually Jaywalkers, but I, once again, munged the pattern to the point of no return by using US 2's instead of 1's, so only had 60 stitches, and four panels of 15 stitches instead of whatever was in the pattern. I turned my own heel and did my own toes, with a three stitch side with decreases.

I love how the pattern turned out and how they give that distinctive pattern. Jet wants a pair, now, too. I'm going to have to figure out how to make them his size. Maybe just three panels of 15?

So I got a bunch of pictures, and loaded them all up at my flickr site.

Empty Bowls started, as a concept in Michigan. The Longmont OUR center version has folks in the community donating bowls by buying them from Crackpots and giving them to the soup event. Then folks pay to go to the event, get a free bowl along with two bowls' worth of soup, and a chance at a silent auction for bowls held over for "artistic merit", whatever that is, or by being made by a local celebrity. A few weeks ago, our church had more than sixty people making bowls for the event, but since John was organizing it he didn't get to paint one.

So we went back and painted some. :-)

Cut so that there aren't THAT many pictures on everyone's friends' list. )

Wow... and I thought Jet was random.

I got to do my first volunteer assignment in Mrs. Bauer's classroom this morning, and wow, it was pretty cool and pretty strange in some ways, too. The work is pretty clearly delineated, which is very useful. She takes care of the reading group and there are four different 'stations'. One is just 'stations', where the kids get to pick some work that they want to do and they just do it.

One is an art station, which the other mom took charge of. And one is a "seated work" station, which was where I was, where the kids do work sheets together. The kids are grouped into groups by their reading ability, which kind of translates directly into writing ability and the like. Each group had their own personality and characteristics. Each had the things that one had to watch with them. The quiet group was so fast in getting their work done that they were done and even done with their extra coloring well before the other groups were done. It was amazing to watch. The slow group didn't even get the regular assignments done, much less anything extra, and there were more of them and they talked a lot more, too.

John was signed up for every week this month, and he asked me to volunteer as he didn't really want to do it every week. So I'm picking up the slack and actually finding it kind of interesting. I was kind of nervous about it last night, but it's turned out okay, I think, and Mrs. Bauer was quite happy that I had a quieter personality as it seems that the kids reflect that back nicely which helps out with her classroom dynamics. Jet was really happy to see me. *grin*
