But suddenly, last night, Jet was talking about getting a baby.

"We get a baby. Not me, I'm a big boy. But we need a baby to grow."

I blinked at him, "A baby?"

"Yeah! A baby for me to help grow."

Ack.

Not that we're planning on getting a baby any time soon, or even late, but it was odd hearing it right out of Jet. I explained that to him and he listened patiently, but he started talking about getting a baby again soon after.

Maybe it's just a phase... I can hope.

Does your family have any pets? Perhaps a puppy or a kitten might satisfy Jet if he keeps up this line of thought.

We don't have any pets. The thought of raising a puppy and a baby at the same time was too terrifying. We may do that when Jet actually asks for a dog, though, instead of a baby... that "eats toys and goes "AAAaaaahhh!"" He made a sound very much like a baby crying....

That's cute. Terrifying from the parental point of view, but cute. Perhaps a pet when he's a bit older? Lots of dog breeds that are absolutely wonderful with kids. Although, I'd guess that training a puppy while raising a young child would complicate matters.

Very terrifying and cute. True.

Yeah... young child I think I can handle having a puppy with, but I couldn't think of it while raising a baby. We figure we'll get a dog when Jet's old enough to ask for one and/or play with one. At the moment, most of them are bigger than he is. He's capable of self-defense, but not really interacting, yet with what we think of as a dog...

Of course, having had a 120 lb Newfoundland does skew our idea of what a dog is...

True. But then again I'm sure you know just how good Newf's can be with kids.

Awwwww.

I'm so glad that the minx hasn't started anything like that. I have enough trouble with my treacherous hindbrain already.

Whew... yeah. I sympathize, entirely, but my logic has stomped on that part of my hindbrain so thoroughly (especially during these plague times) that it barely whimpers when Jet says these things...

I mostly get it when my hormones are hopping, I think.

And somewhere in the back of my head, I had wanted -- back when I expected a far less troublesome process -- a couple. Which makes it all a bit, well, grumpymaking. *growf*

My logic keeps stomping, though!

Well, Kate's been asking for a baby sister for years now, although it seems to have tapered off recently. And Josh is currently fascinated with "babies", and always wants to go over and play with them when he sees them. I think it's just a phase that kids go through. Although Robert was pretty adamant about not wanting another kid in the family for a while, but that was probably just another phase.

Cool. It's good to know that it's a more general thing and not something I should think of as a long-term 'need' of any sort...

thanks!!
