Jet's Discovered Knock-Knocks

Jet bought a book of knock knock jokes and he had me read him a bunch last night. It took a dozen or two for him to get the format, and it was an easy way to figure out what words were unfamiliar to him, as he'd stumble able on the pronounciation. But he loved 'em.

Thing is that I don't think he's getting the puns. He just thinks the last lines are absurd, so he just laughs at the absurity and like making his own absurd ones.

Knock knock!
Who's there?
Ice water!
Ice water who?
Ice water fly with a fly swatter!
You mean you drowned the fly in ice water and the smashed it with the swatter???!!

Didn't you know this joke in elementary school?

"You know what?"
"What?"
"That's what!"

I know I laughed a bunch whenever this was told (all the kids did) but did not understand what made it a joke. It was just the ritual of telling, then laughing!

My grandson recently learned;

"high five!" slap hands with your partner up high
"Down low" and put your hand down low, then

-- move your hand quickly out of the way when your partner tries to slap it down low

"Too slow!" and dissolve into gales of laughter.

I'll readily admit, though, that it's fun for me to laugh so hard at these really beautifully simple jokes.

I'll have to teach Jet those, too. Hee.
