BECAUSE I WAS COLD hat
Apr. 23rd, 2006 11:03 pmThis is still unfinished, but I'm still working on it madly, as I hate having unfinished objects lying around. It is long. It really is longer than a sweater would be, and about half as wide, around, so the project became much bigger than I thought it would be.
But I'm getting nearly done with it and got mad at it and decided to add a secret message to the liner. It says, 'Because I was cold -- PLR 2006' so I can remember when the monstrosity was made.
It's actually very, very warm, and very, very well constructed. The pattern has been a joy to work with and was sold, as a kit, by Schoolhouse Press. You actually push the whole bottom half of it into the top half, and then fold up a huge brim, so I get four layers of 2-yarn cloth at the ear level. It's going to be very nice when it gets back into the sub-zero weather again. Right now, though, it's something of a pain in the hands and shoulders. Hee.
Behind the cut is what the finished hat is supposed to look like on someone:

Date: 2006-04-24 02:55 pm (UTC)I agree, totally. The sweater is actually in John's size, so I'll just steal it when I want to. :-) This is for me, and fun and *warm*. Yum.

Date: 2006-04-25 03:14 pm (UTC)I'm glad you like the colorwork! I have a lot of fun getting on flickr and just clicking on the "colorwork" tag to see what other people are doing. Some of the rainbow items are just astonishing! Reminds me of your hair, sometimes.
Did you see tersa's entry where she buys the Fire on the Mountain (http://www.bluemoonfiberarts.com/fire_on_the_mountain.html) sock colorway? :-) Wow.

Date: 2006-04-27 08:34 am (UTC)And that Fire on the Mountain stuff, man. When she showed the skein to me, I nearly fell over; it's precisely what I think of when I've mulled over a fabulous dance costume, all the shades just perfect and gorgeous (with the red leaning towards pink, curiously; I'm fully embracing my inner pink of late, which still weirds me out). Mmm, nice.
Someday, I should start crocheting again; I have all this fabulous fun (mostly, well, silly fur, but hey) yarn that I haven't touched in months!
