liralen: Finch Painting (firesystem)

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] kathrynt and also thanks to [livejournal.com profile] archangelbeth for the other considerations, but I sold my old wheel for $200. I guess we're less populated with spinners here or something, but looking at all the local ads there weren't any old wheels for sale, nearly anywhere in the Denver area, and those that were for sale on craig's list were antiques that might work. So they were very happy with the price and I'm pretty happy to make up some of the costs I've incurred with my yarns lately.

It's a little sad to say good-bye to it, but it was cool to find out that the Ashford bobbins actually work on my Beaver. Yay! So I kept the bobbin with the Scottish cashmere on it, and I will likely give her one of the high speed bobbins with the high speed whorl that has some of the lace singles that I lost the end of a long time ago. I've finally written that off, and I'll have to say that I'm actually kind of glad to no longer spin yarns so fine that when they break I cannot, for the life of me, find the end again... :-)

The funny thing is that this has gotten me interested in spinning again. The drop spindle has turned out to be less painful than the wheel. The big arm motions seem to make it a lot easier on my body than the very rsi-like hold still for a long time actions with the wheel. The nice thing is that with the Journey Wheel spindles I'm getting fingering weight two-ply yarns very, very comfortably and quickly. Wow. It's fun again. And I found that Crown Mountain Farms sells superwash wool top! Woohoo! So I can spin superwash yarn for socks, now, which I didn't think I could, and mix it with nylon or tencel and dye it if I want, too. Mmm... control-freak nature taking over... ;-)

*hugs back* Exactly... and they love the wheel and it was only collecting dust here. So I'm glad. Yay for finding good homes for things well-loved and well-used!
