This is some yarn I just spun, using the drop spindle and my Beaver wheel. Both are fingering weight, and the one on the left was hand-dyed by someone while in the wool, still. The one on the right I mixed from four different shades of wool and two kinds of silk. The subtle shades aren't showing on the right very well, I think because of the light and the contrast with the other yarn.

Not quite sure what I'm going to do with them, but some fine gauge shawl, shrug, or sweater is tempting.

Wow. You, too, are like unto a god, o creator of yarn! o.O

That is just remarkable--looks like it could have come from a machine, it's so even and lovely. I think that's what stays my hand from spinning, myself; I'm such a spaz that I suspect anything I made would be entirely unuseable due to too much thick-and-thinness.

Amusingly enough, most folks that buy hand-spun really want the thicks and thins. I spin because it's fun and because the fiber, alone, is often less expensive than the yarn. PLUS I get complete control over the results.

And the really textured yarns, if you're afraid of them breaking, you can always pair with a commercial yarn and make an extra-fast scarf or something and it's always more interesting than the completely even stuff. :-) It's fun to say, "I created this from chaos myself!" Hee.

Y'know, with as much chaos as my life tends to be in, I like the idea of "yarn from chaos" a great deal. Maybe I'll try making that cd/dowel spindle thing Sandy mentioned...

Not that I crochet much these days, but I still have a mad love for yarn. And I'm sure to start again eventually!

I always have, too. It's truly insane, too, as, twice I've come to the conclusion that I had more yarn and fiber than I could deal with in my life time, and twice, I got rid of an insane amount of it and still...

... still... I have more yarn and fiber than I can deal with in my lifetime and I keep buying more. *grin*

Ooh, beautiful. I would never have guessed that was hand-spun. The blue, especially, is going to make something marvelous. I'm totally tempted to ask about commissioning a blue lacy shawl or wrap or something sometime, if you do that sort of thing. :)
