One great good thing that did come out of going to the fair last night was finding out that the local Beekeepers' Association has a weekly, two-hour class from October thru December that covers everything about beekeeping. Ooo... That would be very cool.

Turns out that a neighbor of ours has a bee hive, which is why my garden does so very well so far as pollenation. I should thank them with tomatoes or something. :-)

Have you read The Beekeeper's Apprentice by Laurie R. King? It's one of my favorite mystery novels.

Yes! My sister turned me onto it. It's quite good and only fed my fascination with bees and beekeeping. :-)

My father used to keep bees. And I used to keep getting stung by them. :)

*grin* Did you help him with stuff? Or was it just the random bee?

I was far too young to be helpful. It was just random bees. Usually it was because I wasn't careful enough. I soon learned to beware when Dad put on his bee-wear.

Ooo... I love the chop.

I'll have to explain the correllation to Jet if I ever do get a hive. I think I'm more fascinated about being able to LEARN about bees than I am about actually keeping them while Jet might get hurt. Still... it's something I love thinking about.

In actuality, Dad kept the beehives right in the back of our house, and we were all perfectly safe as long as we didn't venture too close to them under normal situations. The only times I really remember getting stung were when Dad was messing with the hive (harvesting honey, for example) and got them all stirred up, and I disobeyed orders to stay in the house because I wanted to play outside.

Of course, I wouldn't have that trouble nowadays, with the computer and the Internet. They'd have to make me go outside. :)

I was going to tell you that you shouldn't taunt the Swarm, but you probably know that now.

Thank you!

If you ever want any help on questions or practical applications, feel free to shoot them my way. I not only am a beekeeper, I have a considerable formal background in bee biology. (I was a biologist before I got into computers. And as a botanist by training, developing an interest in bees was a natural.)

Wow! Thank you! I remembered you'd left a comment a while ago about your experience in this area. I'll be sure to ask. Thanks!!
