Peacock, straight.

This is a three-ply, Navajo ply of the peacock colorway from Chasing Rainbows, the sheen is from the fact this is a 50-50 blend of tencel and merino wool and it feels as silky as it looks. Mmm... It's a bit subdued for my usual palatte, but hey, it's beautiful.

I just finished it the other night and liked getting the pictures of it. I just joined the community [livejournal.com profile] yarnporn and so I'm trying to get better pictures of my yarn. *grin* There's a bunch there at the moment and up on flickr.

I have little love for tencel. It's basically cellulose fiber, and just this side of high explosive on the fire safety scale. To make it safe for humans to wear, you have to do things with nasty fireproofing chemicals. On the other hand, it makes shiny, slick, beautiful, very light fabrics.

So places like Norm Thompson and a number of other places sell garments made from the stuff, because you can still sell highly flammable garments to adults. Just not for children.

Wait a minute. The tag says "yarn spinning." You SPUN that yarn? The colors are amazing and the yarn is so even.

Wow. Do you know what you will knit with it?

I've tried spinning with a drop spindle but the resulting yarn has been QUITE lumpy. My friend Ellie, who gave me the drop spindle, says I didn't card my wool properly. Apparently two hair brushes aren't ideal.

Yup. I spun that yarn. :-) I love spinning my own yarn, as I get complete control over what I get. I'm likely to make hand warmers from it as it just feels so nice against the skin. Mmmm...

If you peer at the yarn porn community, you'll see a lot more of my handspun, too. :-)
