Properly Smug Marith
Oct. 8th, 2006 02:33 pmYou were right to be smug,
marith.
Ever since I got O-kami, I've been playing it every minute I can. Jet is actually willing to lay down his controller (which he has been welding with graduated ability through "his game" in Star Wars 2 as the 'one who likes seeing new places the most') and just watch me play. He likes that paint brushes change reality and I think he sees how the symbols work.
The strange thing is that I notice that the brush strokes are very, very realistic for what a calligraphy brush would do if it were asked to touch down right where it is asked to and dragged the way the controller drags is. Circles are still driving me mad, but I love, love, love the game.
Wow.
Thank you,
marith, you have every right to be quite smug. *grin* I love the present. Wow.

Date: 2006-10-09 03:42 pm (UTC)Some of the latter monsters are a bit too scary for Jet, but I've actually found some time to play those boss monsters on my own. The "Golden Gates" are a good sign that I should shoo him upstairs for a snack or to play with his friends.
Some of the fights are pretty hard. Even with the ink abilities. And I'm not doing as well as I want, but I'm getting through a lot of stuff without dying, which, for the time being, is good enough for me.

Date: 2006-10-09 07:29 pm (UTC)Most of the usual controls do the usual things, but there's an additional layer of being able to draw things with a brush and ink over any instant of the game. You freeze time, and then use the brush to paint on reality, and the painting affects the game reality. Strokes renew plants, bring out the sun, and, of course, fight the demons. There's 13 'stroke techniques' to be gained, though they're mostly variations on each other.
