Loom from the Front

I figure that if I haven't used it by now I'm not likely to. Don't know if there's anyone out there that's thinking of buying a loom, but our price is kind of squishy at the moment as I'm not sure what we can get for it at the moment.

We don't know the manufacturer, but it seems to be very solidly built. I'm doing some research to figure it out. But it's a 42" wide loom, and the new ones from name brands seem to be going for multiple thousands. Meefle. Just in case any one reading this has a lead to someone that would love this beast for what it is. *grin*

ARGH.

I desperately want to learn to weave. I have no room for a loom. I can't afford a loom. I can't afford SHIPPING on a loom. And I mean I really seriously don't have room for it.

ARGH. I want it like Gollum wants the ring.

Hmmm...

.... well, if you were willing to wait until we moved you wouldn't have to do the shipping... but that might be three or four months or it might be more than a year, depending. We're having a hard time at the moment getting up the gumption to do all the hard work of moving at the moment. *sigh*

But I'm only thinking of around $500 for it. Yeah, I know, most 40" floor looms seem to be going for multiple thousands, new, but this one, she is old though solid and I don't know the manufacturer, yet, so the availability of parts may be a question, though the harnesses look standard enough for lots of the little parts to be standard.

I'm doing research on the manufacturer, to see if I'd be comfortable asking for more for it at the local weaver's guild.

It also comes with a ton of stuff, including shuttles, a test nail bed, lots and lots of other things I can't identify and about half a dozen books on weaving. *grin*

I looked at it and thought the same thing, even though I can barely KNIT, barely finish any of my knitting projects, and have a million other things I OUGHT to be doing.

I swear, fiber arts are somehow impregnated with crack. I need to stick to knitting which is at least small and portable. Maybe I'll go wild and branch out to crochet someday.

At least your want is more justified than mine. :)

It's all clear now

"fiber arts are somehow impregnated with crack"

That would certainly explain my reaction to walking around the Black Sheep Gathering. Everything from real sheep to finished products and every piece of equipment you could ever need to do it yourself. And most of the vendors were either knitting or weaving while talking with customers. A most heady experience.

Ooooo... yes.

The sheep were tempting to me when we had our rough acre out back... but they are less tempting now.

It's pretty amazing when it's All In One Place.

*grin* You don't have to know how to knit in order to learn how to weave...

But, yes, it is pretty addictive.

I don't know where the addictive additive is, whether its in the yarn, or the needles, or if its just the case that once you pick up your first needles, or hooks and your first yarn, you are hooked.

My addiction was latent for about 30 years. I used to attempt to crochet when I was little. I also loom knit (though I didn't know what it was called then) and knit with needles. I gave up then, because I wasn't any good at it. But a couple of years ago, my sister got back into crocheting, when it became trendy ;) and she dragged me back into it too.

Thankfully, I'm better at it all now than I was then. I have 2 crochet projects going, and 2 loom knitting projects going too, and more yarn than I need in my office :)

*hugs*

We *all* have more yarn than we need. It's no longer about need, it's about addiction. *grin*

If $500 is the price, plus S&H, I might be interested... but only if no one has bought it yet in April. Cash is kinda tight until then...

So... hm. We still have it and it's still that price. :-)

And I still can't afford it...

e-mail me at anselmnospace234atmacdotcom, taking out the 'nospace' and changing the rest as appropriate, and maybe we can work out a payment plan.
