liralen: A pictures of one of my bees (bee)

Salon did an excellent job with this article, as they got four different experts with different viewpoints on why the bees are collapsing. You have to get through an ad to get to the article, but I found it worth it.

Good article. A lot of the same things I hear at the Santa Clara Bee Guild. I notice mention has been made of the same thing I've noticed: the native wild bees are declining, as well. I've noticed a drop in everything from solitary bees to bumblebees.

Yeah. It's pretty scary.

Though, for me, it's oddly an inverse, as I've now had five different people contact me about swarms or colonies all inhabiting people's houses mostly because folks knew that I'd taken the class. So I'm seeing more bees than I've ever seen in my life, but, then again, I'm in Colorado, too. So it's likely different.

The bumblebee has been the main native pollinator here, and I haven't seen that many of them, either.

Ah well...
