Bad Teeth...

So after a few months of just living with a bite that doesn't quite meet, and realizing that I've actually lost enough weight that my pants fall off of me without a belt (it was kind of funny walking through King Soopers while holding some stuff I was buying and realizing suddenly that I would have to juggle things to keep my pants up), that I finally realized that things weren't okay with my teeth.

So I finally got an appointment with a dentist that a good friend (and one whom I think is very discerning about how "good" and "bad" health workers are) recommended. It's for tomorrow. Wish me luck. I'm hoping to get at least that *fixed* for good somehow. I'll just pray that it doesn't mean getting a whole new crown.

I canceled my appointment with the optometrist as it's pretty obvious that he wanted to sell me on Lasik and tell me it was a protein allergy when it's pretty obvious to me that it's my systemic allergies. My eyes are still irritated and still unhappy and still "cobblestoned" after a month without lenses. I don't need a doctor to tell me that and charge me another hundred dollars to do so.

The good thing is that in a few months when winter is good and hard I'll be able to get my allergy test done and hopefully start treatments so that my eyes, lungs, and sneezing abate. Heck, with the first good frost I should have some relief on all those symptoms anyway. So meds for only another month, I hope. A good thing is that I discovered that one of my very active neighbors has had asthma since he was 20, and he's been using Advair on a regular basis as well to keep his under control and that it's worked for him for five years. A few months on it, then, doesn't scare me as much.

It would be really great to feel healthy again...

so, on the allergy note. my husband has AWFUL allergies and asthma. as in i've never seen anybody be so allergic to everything (not foods so much, but plants and air and animals and and and). anyhow, he went to an NAET practitioner, and has had remarkable results. made life much more livable. now, it is alternative, and out of pocket, but it was so worth it. he went because a woman at work he was friends with had gone and basically eliminated her issues. (also, with the alternative thing...he's an engineer guy, midwestern raised, and was quite skeptical. was wonderful for him to get the relief, even in initial disbelief. :d)

he tried doing the allergy shots for a year to no avail. It was good to be tested, but the shots did *nothing.*

What's an NAET practitioner? :-)

I'm going to at least try the shots, they've worked in the past for me. And I kind of like knowing the process by which they work. But I'll try and figure out the other if the shots don't work. I haven't had asthma for a while before this... but when I was a kid I tested positive for just about *everything*. *sigh*

i'm glad the shots have worked for you! yeah, n's has a large document of all the things he should avoid. i have to remember what *not* to plant in our yard. some things are so sad, like yarrow. ah well, what we do for love. ;)

Plus, at the moment, pretty much *everything* is out of pocket for us. *sigh* Though we do get the Blue Cross rates and after $6k everything's covered, but still, it takes a lot to get up to that level and I don't *want* to get up to that level. *grin*

Have you tried steroid drops for your eyes? They'd have to be a prescription, of course. My eye doc gave me Tobradex (I think that's the name) after the last eye spazz out (very, very dry, very, very red, lasts for days). Did those drops four times a day for about 10 days. Today, I was able to wear my contacts for eight hours without even a hint of redness! Unfortunately, I can't take claritin anymore... or if I have to take claritin, I have to plan to not wear my glasses until I've stopped again and a couple of days have passed. It dries out the eyes. :( Luckily, my allergies are pretty mild as such things go.

Anyway, I hope you much luck with the eye thing!

Best wishes. Our health is one of the few things that goes with us where-ever we go.

I'd be a little uncomfortable with anyone pushing LASIK, too. I think it needs to be an educated decision reached after careful consideration, considering the consequences if it doesn't go right. Sure, the odds are good - but I'm the one who has to walk around with these eyes the rest of my life, buddy. It definitely isn't something to be done on the cheap, either.

On the positive side, at least you're living in an area where you *get* a hard winter, vs. a more tropical climate like Florida or Alabama.
