I spent the whole night dueling Sephiroth. I kept getting beaten, too, over and over and over and over and... growl...

The interesting thing was that it was pretty clear he wasn't beating me because he liked it or because he wanted to destroy the world or anything. What was interesting was that it really turned into a lesson. He was teaching me where the real boundaries were on the fighting system, not the stupid, just hit the button system that the beginning fighting system had turned into. There was real timing involved and real options on how to counter, and gradually, I was lengthening each fight until I saw an eye glint that would have been a smile in any other being.

I figure my brain decided it had to integrate the fighting system, inside, so that I can do better next time. The interesting thing with video games is that they definitely bring in all the glandular flux learning stuff that all stress situations can do. So I learn it so much faster.

Stress is still my element.

Edited to add that there's spoilers in the comments in a way...

Sephiroth is evil, but in a fascinating kind of way. He's one of those boss battles where it's not enough to merely be fast at button-mashing and have a high level; you have to actually know what you're doing. (Which is why I will never beat him in any game, ever. But I digress.) There are some bosses that are more evil--that one in the first Kingdom Hearts that hangs out in front of the clock on the Peter Pan world, being completely optional unless you forgot to pick up the box of puppies there the first time around, comes to mind--but he's probably the most interestingly evil boss in what he requires.

Meep. I shall now have to get the first game, too, and probably put on my wish list all the FF games. *laughter*

But, yeah, the dream was very, very much Sephiroth as the ultimate warrior type thing, and the only real evil to him might just be whatever I assigned to him simply for standing in my way. And I could tell, in my dream, that I was learning from him, and if I could actually beat him, I'd have actually *earned* it, which I couldn't say of nearly anything else I've done at the beginning level, other than the final boss, which I'm about to probably just cream now that I have the Stuff and know that Riku is going to stick with me through the end.

*laughter*

It's fun.

I didn't get far into the first Kingdom Hearts -- platforming sequences are my bane -- but I remember just barely beating him in Final Fantasy VII. He had one of those attacks that knocks your whole party down to one HP each, and he'd used it and I was completely out of healing of any kind... and I was just able to get in a big enough attack to do him in before his next action, which would have killed my party.

At that, he wasn't as bad as the boss at the end of Final Fantasy X. That one took me many, many attempts and a bit of peeking at online strategy guides for hints.

Wooo...

I have FF VII. I didn't get that far. *grin*

I'm probably going to have to play it while Jet's at school, the battle after battle after battle sequences were just too much for him. Jet isn't into the fighting, yet, he loved the Winnie the Pooh stories and just helping everyone out. So KH is probably more Jet's style.

Still, now I'll have something to look forward to in the other games.

But now I really want to beat him in Kingdom Hearts II...
