They weren't really lies. Urahara told himself that, all the time, as he hid his eyes behind his fan. They wanted to do it. Wanted to go out and rescue their friends, use their powers, save the world. Even Yoruichi, his oldest, dearest friend couldn't know as much as he did of what was really going on, what was needed.

Just because he left out a few bits of information, didn't mean he had actually lied. And they were winning, right?

As long as they were winning, he had no right to doubt himself, doubt his choices, doubt what he asked them to do. They just had to win.

That's the difference between Urahara and Aizen, isn't it? That guilt, that doubt Urahara tries to deny just doesn't exist for Aizen, and that's the only real difference between them. They're both two chessmasters moving their pawns around the board, but they see the game differently. Don't know where that came from, it's just what I thought of when I read this. Anyway, I really like this little look inside Urahara's head.

Yeah. I do see Urahara being able to regret. To be pensive about what's to come, to doubt and still go on and be a manipulative bastard because he feels he has to. Thanks for the comment that helped solidify things for me!
