I Exist...
Apr. 11th, 2008 09:46 pm... and have now tasted Absinthe at the Old Absinthe House on Bourbon Street, and seen the blue flame when they light the Herbsaint over the glass of water. Not the traditional method of serving it, indeed, but very pretty. Sweet and herbal and anise flavored and cloudy emerald as the clear spirit hits the water.
Sipping Absyinthe on Bourbon street at night during the French Quarter Music Festival is very loud and interesting. Not quite an intellectual exercise, what with the strip bars, liquor bars, and beads falling from the sky. There aren't quite the number of balcony parties there would be during Mardi Gras, but there are a good number of parties up there throwing beads to passerbys that just even look up and wave at the people up there. No need to actually flash anyone.
But I'm exhausted from five days of going, breakfast at 6:30, so up at dawn, and working through the day on things that have exhausted the body, if not the mind or heart. And it was sobering seeing entire neighborhoods still boarded up and dark on the way in. I'll post more in the morning when I'm awake enough...
