I hate not being able to breathe.  The cold last week, high tree pollen counts, my asthma, and just generally being stupid about staying up late in order to indulge in my writing binge has made it so that I'm coughing everywhere.  Bah.  And I have my allergy shot treatment appointment this afternoon to make sure that the whole series is actually helping.  It's costing several thousand dollars, so it had better be improving things.  And now I'm all confused as to whether or not it has improved anything.

I suspect that if I hadn't had the cold I'd be in much better shape, but... grumble, humbug.

I've been mildly cranky and poor Jet has had trouble understanding why it is that Momma just isn't in the mood to play.  Last night, he cried when he thought about leaving me alone in the house when he was going to go play with his friends and he couldn't understand when I gently said but I wanted to be alone, that I loved him, lots, and that he should have fun with his friends and not worry so much about leaving me in the house alone.  It took a little while, but he ran off to play and seemed very happy about playing with the other kids.  So that's all to the good.

Tonight we'll go to a knitting meeting together.  That will help, I think.  He loves to knit, and is quite good at it, now.  So it should be quiet for both of us.

Breathing is, on the whole, a good thing. I find that I tend to prefer it to not breathing.

It does kind of bring home that whole Maslow hierarchy-of-needs concept, doesn't it? When you can't breathe, suddenly concerns like "Did I remember to buy laundry detergent?" just magically disappear.

If only there were a way to retain that feeling of "If only I could draw a clear breath, I would be the happiest person in the world" through to the point where you can draw a clear breath. It's so hard to keep it in mind so we can think from time to time, "Hey, I'm breathing. That's awesome. Life is good."

Amen.

I'm actually closer to that last paragraph then most people, I think. *grin* I don't complain about much, usually. It's actually a pretty nice way to live.

And, yeah, it really does bring home that concept, hard, sometimes.

I almost forgot the ObSF:

"Breath is the least appreciated gift of the gods. None sing hymns to it, praising the good air, breathed by king and beggar, master and dog alike. But, oh to be without it!"

(hugs) I blame the pollen, and the cold, and I hope that the allergy shot helps!

I and a number of coworkers have been having sniffles and aching dry eyes recently. At first we thought it was a hangover from the cold/s that has been going around, but we've now decided that Spring Pollen is involved, but the grey gloomy weather has made it harder to realise this, due to the general lack of Spring-ness.

That makes sense. The tree pollens have been really bad here, lately, and aren't quite as obvious.

Good luck with that!

No reason to be sorry. *grin* It's why I think he's still my favorite in many ways.

Thanks! I hope I do, too, soon.

being sick sucks .. but awwwws ... Jet is so cute ... if all kids were more like that, then maybe I wouldn't be so adverse to having one.

anyway, hope you get feeling better and get back to that whole breathing thing again soon.

I've been told that Jet's the cause of at least three couples doing their best to have children. It... boggles my mind. *laughter* He's still a lot of work, but he's so sweet about it all.

Thanks for the wishes! Breathing is good.

Jet does sound like an awesome kid. I wish we lived closer because my five year old would love him!

Speaking of which, how did you start out teaching him to knit? My guy keeps asking...

Well... first, at around three to around five or six, he'd sit in my lap and I'd hold the left needle and he'd hold the right needle and we'd go through a bunch of stitches together. For a while I'd wrap, then he figured out how to do that, too. At three or four, he'd sit there for a dozen or so stitches, by six or so, he was counting the rows we'd done together.

For his seventh birthday he asked for a pair of knitting needles and cool yarn, and he'd been doing the lap knitting for so long, that when I cast on come stitches for him, he just started to knit. It was pretty cool to watch him. *grin*

We've been doing tiny stuffies, just ten to fifteen stitches across, all garter stitch, and we've been stuffing them with cotton ball. Just a cast on and a cast off row for the arms and legs, and I've been sewing buttons on as eyes.

So it was kind of a gradual process, where he just picked up more and more of it.

Thanks! My five year old is a little wriggly but when he's interested in something he can focus for hours. I guess I need to catch him on the right day!

Your stuffies sound cute.
