[livejournal.com profile] rasetsunyo has been so kind as to point out that in an earlier chapter, Ukitake's eyes are *brown*, rather decisively so, too. Hee. No wonder so many people are so confused!! Yay! It's not just me!

Interesting! I actually find it really engaging that Kubo-sensei changes his mind like that. :p

*laughter*

I actually have to agree with you. I like that it's big enough to have those kinds of differences. And people can pick and choose.

It was pointed out that a lot of the Japanese fanart has green eyes... Mmm... which does still appeal to me.

116. *grin* The brown eyes, that is. page 4.

It's on the rasetsuno's name of the scan. Not my memory.

And the green eyes are in chapter 155.

Maybe he has hazel eyes and different environment bring out different colors? *laughter* Or maybe I should just enjoy the ambiguity.

Don't it make my brown eyes green

I was totally thinking hazel, too. Or maybe his illness is changing them over time. Or he got jealous. Or this is an imposter!

Or someone *stole* his original eyes and he got replacements. Or he gave them to someone. Cue the Ukitake/Tousen OTPers!

Or Kubo-sensei ran out of the proper color on a tight deadline and had to make do with what was on hand.

It's pleasing to live in a world of many possibilities.

Oooo... yes.

It *is* pleasing to have such a plethora of possibilities.

I do love your brain. Wow.

Or maybe one of his assistants *liked* green? Or maybe Kubo-sensei liked green just that day, and decided ooo.. the fangirls will like this... *giggles*

I don't know....fandom's spilt into two with Ukitake's eye colour...some like brown, others like green...some give him a diffrent shade, like storm grey! XD

....his name was spelled, Ukitake Zyuushirou....O.o

I've noticed another quirk of Ukitake! his hair changes lengths! sometimes its near his buttocks or it just passed the 13th division mark on his back! hmmmm, maybe Kubo-sensei should keep it butt-Lengthed XP

Right! *laughs and laughs*

His hair does change lengths! Depending on the shot. I had noticed that... okay. I just have to love the variation, now. *giggles*

haha, I know! X3

I quirk that really gets me is that when the guys are in suits or in that Seal sword OVA, Ukitake wears a three-piece suit! he looks hot in it! But I can't picture him in anything else anymore....It fits him! ^____^

I think that's the Kunrei system of romanisation. It's kind of counter-intuitive for non-native speakers, so the one we're more familiar with are variants of the Hepburn system. Hepburn makes it easier for us as non-native speakers to approximate Japanese pronounciations but it tends to conceal the actual kana, and thus is considered more "unsystematic" than Kunrei.

Are you certain those are both official coloured scans, though? Because one or both could be fan-created, so it would make sense that his eyes would be different colours in that case.

That's an excellent point. I don't actually know. And [livejournal.com profile] stark_black has the official art book with all the captains in color, and it looks like Jyuushiro's eyes are light brown in that.

So I don't quite know how to tell; but more things seem to point towards brown than green, as much as I'd love that color. *grin*

Also, check the anime. Because as off as the anime can be sometimes, it's usually good with colouring and stuff.

In the anime his eyes are pretty clearly brown. But other folks eyes change color, too, like Gin's.

But, yeah, it is another check that goes on the side of brown.

Sorry for jumping into the conversation like this, but I think the page with the green eyes are. In my copy of volume 18 that page has the dark shading that shows that it was originally a coloured page, not a regular black-and-white one that fans might colour. Not sure about the one with the brown as I haven't got that volume. Though I have to say it looks like KT's (or his assistants') colouring style; the fan-made coloured pages I've seen tend to be a bit more, how to say, obviously CG and a little over-modelled. And they're usually credited and/or watermarked.

From: [identity profile] liralen.livejournal.com
Mmmm... yeah, looking at my 18, I can see that it has the shading from being color in the original.

Neat.

And, yeah, I hadn't seen any credits for the coloring on either of the pages.

I'm grateful for you jumping in.

I love the green eyes... *happy sigh*

I am still very taken with the idea that the green eyes are just beautiful... and no matter if it's a mistake or just the decision of the day or if they're hazel and caught the light differently or... whatever...

Pale jade green eyes are neat...

Yeah I think I'm going to colour them green from now on...
