We had a good day, went and saw the new Indiana Jones movie that has a name I cannot remember for the life of me but it was good mindless fun. Spent most of the rest of the day drinking genma (toasted rice mixed with green) tea while it rained outside and either writing or helping others write.

I hope everyone else had a good Memorial Day!

Spent some time thinking about the service men and women who have given their lives for our safety and security and way of life. Thank you. It's always good to take a moment and remember on this day. [livejournal.com profile] ross_teneyck offered a gorgeous prayer for them: Requiem aetarnam dona eis, Domine; et lux perpetua luceat eis. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon them. Thanks, Ross.

The usual spelling is aeternam, if you're going by the traditional version; I agree that it's a beautiful sentence.

We used to sing the Libera Me from the Faure Requiem quite often at school: partly because it has a splendid tune in the unison section, but also, I suspect, because it was nicely cathartically dramatic for a lot of teenagers to hammer out.

("Deliver me, O Lord, from eternal death on that fearful day, when the heavens and the earth are moved, when you come to judge the world with fire. I am made to tremble and I fear, because of the judgment that will come, and also the coming wrath. That day, day of wrath, calamity, and misery, day of great and exceeding bitterness. Grant them eternal rest, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.")
