There's a new position on the LJ Advisory Board for a User Representative.

You can vote for 'em. There's one guy doing a negative campaign *against* all fanfiction, and it's so stupid I had to vote for some other folks. The folks that both [livejournal.com profile] stark_black  and [livejournal.com profile] archangelbeth  recommended have been [livejournal.com profile] rm  and [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy , and there's been enough recommendations for [livejournal.com profile] vichan  as well, that I just went for that. I'm lazy, I'll admit it. I know Beth well enough to know she's probably read more than I have about it all, and I trust her.

Voting ends at 9 pm PDT on Thursday May 29, so get to it.

Do you have a link to the voting page? Or did you leave it off deliberately so that people who wanted to vote would have to look things up and decide for themselves?

I demand the right to cast an uninformed ballot based on my fond regard for your good opinion of Beth's opinion, even though I don't know Beth at all. That's the essence of Web 2.0's power, after all.

Or as Clay Shirky put it in his amazing book Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing Without Organizations:
"Life teaches us that motivations other than getting paid aren't enough to add up to serious work. And now we have to unlearn that lesson, because it is less true with each passing year." (p103)

Just out of curiosity, who is the candidate who is against fanfics?

Here's an article that's a bit more informed than I am at the moment.

Oh, Lord, t3h dramaz... now I'm sorry I asked :)

OK, the guy's an asshat and apparently running on the platform of being an asshat, which is enough for me to vote for pretty much anyone else. But I gotta ask... the LJ advisory board? Do those guys have any influence? I thought the basic account fiasco demonstrated that whoever it is that owns LJ now will use the advisory board to make it look like they're listening to the users, while in fact cheerfully ignoring whatever the board advises them to do.

I have no idea. *grin* But I'd rather work in the faith that it'll have some effect and that it makes a difference who gets elected. :-)

And, yeah, no drama like internet drama. :-)

Oh, glory. I have a sudden urge to point these folks in the direction of sunshine and fresh air. Put the computer down and back away slowly. I know it's painful, but there is healing to be had on the other side. Also, exponentially less drama. *rolls eyes and goes to vote anyway, just on the off chance that LJ plans to actually listen to whoever gets picked*

*giggles* Yes. I have to agree.

Uhm... and in addition, it's been pointed out that the fellow in question also moderates http://community.livejournal.com/rape_an_ljer/

Which isn't... exactly what I'd want for a rep.
