Just automated a bunch of text munging I've been doing for the last five years for my normal journal. I thought it was going to take me days, but with perl, while learning it, it took me just two hours. Hee. Regular expressions are *good*.

mmmmmm, perl

ruby is cute, too. Sort of the bastard offspring of Perl and Smalltalk.

And thus, it is worthy of being used by Liralen!

My whole dynamic homepage weasel is written in perl.

Ooo! Most of my first major developement project was in Smalltalk and there are some things about that paradigm I really like... thanks for the pointer!

Wooo!! I like your pages. Do you actually have a script that you use for writing your entries and stuff? Plus things that make the presentation of your entries? I'm curious about the structure of your page. Maybe I'll talk with you about it online sometime. I'd really like to learn more.

Yah, my homepage is actually dynamically produced by a CGI script. Each day's entry is a separate file, named by date, and each comment is a separate file named by the date of the entry it goes with, so the script can easily get all entries and comments within a given range of dates. I also have a script that fires up vi on a file with the right name for the date given (defaulting to the current date, obviously) because I'm lazy.

The big advantage that I have found to this is that I can easily copy the scripts to make other journal things, like the AotBS one! Yay me!

Wooo!! That *is* very clever! Yay, Trip!

I did notice that you'd done your AotBS one in a similar vein and that was very keen indeed!

I'm gradually working up to using CGI with perl as I want to create a page that'll show the system according to whatever someone is interested in looking at... seven dimensional matricies are hard to look at in two dimensions all at once, so if they're interested in a particular dimention it'll spit the appropriate data at them.
