Advice to Door-to-Door Salesmen

You really should NOT say, "Are your parents here?" when a woman comes to the door. Especially not with a little smirk that might or might not have been you going, oh, she's gonna love that I've 'mistaken her' for a teenager and buy my bug spraying service.

Because you're going to come across a forty-five-year-old woman who's gonna look at you like you're insanely CLUELESS, who just says, "No."

and closes the door.

You have to admit, though, it's still kind of a…well, I guess you could say an unintentional meta-compliment. He didn't actually mistake you for someone that young, but he did mistake you for someone who could be mistaken for someone that young.

Oh... lord. I don't know what to say to that. It sounds like they were trying SO HARD to weaken you to buy their crap, but they failed so hard.

It sounds like the question was just dripping with falseness, which would have put me off from buying from them anyways. (I prefer sincerity when talking to people... maybe it's just me? :D )

I was thinking of him when I wrote that. I remember driving up to your place when you were in WA, getting out of the car, and then seeing a very large black form come ambling out of the woods behind your house. My first instinctual thought was "Bear!" That was followed quickly by "Aww... It's Fezzik!" It was great to finally meet him. He would have been *quite* a big surprise to the uninitiated, though.
