A couple of friends of ours did a site with 10000 pictures of 1000 miles of California coast line and Times just featured it as one of their best 50 websites:

http://www.californiacoastline.org/

It was done in order to have prove and evidence of the state of the coastline when there's litigation involving destruction of the coastline. It's amazing how detailed it is and has been done each decade.

It's cool to see the site getting that kind of pubicity.

Its quite a neat website. The longitudinal (historical) nature of the photos is extremely useful for seeing how a particular area changes over time. I did that to look at the La Conchita landslide area in this post
