Joan's leaving for three weeks, with Haley and Alex, to visit with her parents for the time and take some time out to go to Seattle and stuff. So Jet gets to stay with us for three weeks and since he has obliging grandparents and wimpy parents, we're having my parents over for a week and then John's Mom here for two weeks, so we'll have grandparent coverage for Jet's amusement for the entire time. It's not the same as having two other kids to play with but it should still be fun. *grin*

It's still hot today. Probably hotter than yesterday, even, and we'll probably break out the AC in the latter hours of the afternoon. For the moment, the ceiling fans are plenty.

Jet has now had a week of only getting up one or two times a night, so the good sleeping has stuck, and he might get even better sleep once his nose clears up and it's not so darned hot at night. Yay!! Yay!! Yay!! He's found that there are regions of his futon he likes better or dislikes more, depending on his mood. There's the slope of the blanket/sheet pile, there's the pillow jumble, there are the flat planes between, and there's the three teddy bears, one smaller than him that Carla and Limarick gave him and old John Jacques Kujo, my bear of a few decades, who is about as big as Jet, and the bear Joan gave him which is nearly my size and nearly a Jet-mattress unto himself. We found him one morning draped over Joan's bear. Hee.

My work is slacking off. Whew. Release time, recharge time. Folks running off for six to eight weeks of vacation time. Whew.

I printed pictures for Joan before she left, she wanted some with Jet and her bear. I also printed a five by three block of photos for myself and for my high school friend, Sharon, as she'd asked for some pictures, and it was easier that way. Sometimes printing my own high definition color pictures feels like printing money, somehow it seems to be cheating to be printing my own. It's odd, but I'll get over it, I'm sur

I do a lot of this - especially because all my photography is digital anyways. Not to mention I've scanned and cleaned-up several great pictures my family's taken that are flawed in one way or another (washed out, etc.)

And when you consider how bloody much good photo-paper for the printer costs, and how much consumables cost... doesn't feel like cheating at all to me.

I got my nice paper at Costco, so it's like a dime a sheet, and it works great. The ink cartridges are pretty pricey, but they seem to last me a while, at least. My Epson has the individual cartridges that can be changed when they run out instead of having to do the whole thing at once and wasting ink.

I only moved to digital four years ago, so maybe it's just having been at the mercy of print shops for so long, it's just... an odd feeling... to print my own. *grin* Nice to be able to choose what I want printed, too, instead of having to print a whole roll just to pick out the good ones... It's just kind of magical to go from light on a screen to something I can hold.

Does Cyan Ink still fade after a while?

Not, I suppose, that it matters, as long as you have the
original and can print off more copies at need. I hope you're
doing offsite backups (or maybe that's just the sysadmin in me
talking).

I have this strange vision of decades from now, people going through things and instead of finding a shoebox of old photos, finding various media in now-unreadable formats.

I've already done that. Heh. Came across a box of the five inch floppies with a bunch of old Usenet mail on them. I don't know of anyone with a five inch drive anymore. I finally had to ressurect one and then found there are no drivers for it on my new machines. Ah well...

Cyan used to fade pretty badly. I looked for the Epson printers because in the last two years, they came up with ink that now doesn't fade for something like 70 years... or the equilvalent light wear from their tests. So the new inks are much better about staying bright

Oh! Yeah, we do have all the originals and make a CD backup every once in a while and copy it off to various grandparents and Kathy. *grin* I guess that's an offsite backup. We do think that way, too. Hee.
