I had a very very good birthday, even though it began a little too early, as I had to be up by 7 to get to church early enough to make coffee. But John made waffles and bacon for breakfast, and the boys went with me while I made coffee.

A busy, lovely day. )

We're gearing up for Thanksgiving.

The eye infection came back, went away with the new drops, but the ophthalmologist checked my eye pressure today and figured out that the pressure's high enough in my eye, to qualify for glaucoma. We're staying with the drops to clear this stuff up, but then we're going to do a thorough check and make sure there's no nerve damage.

Nice thing was knowing that the infection didn't move into the eye itself, and the doc's pretty clear about it not really being something hidden. Instead, it's a combination of going cold turkey off the steroid drops (dropping from 4 a day to nothing) and, possibly, my reinfecting them by using my old antihistamine drops when my eyes got irritated after the last round, since this time BOTH eyes got it.

The last several days have been insane. Editing, LHUT, Jet's definition of GT, In-laws are here, and Thanksgiving. )

... and finally writing a little again, but mostly just staying alive, lately. It's been kind of cool.

Yesterday the chiropractor tried to straighten me out after all the coughing. My massage therapist was just shocked at how knotted up I was last Tuesday, so she recommended me getting worked on, as he could help with the immune system as well as the muscles that were just messed up by lying, sitting, and coughing all week. The funny thing was that for the middle of my back he got me all positioned like a pretzel and then bounced on me, and nothing moved. He said that my muscles had locked up so tight from the coughing he couldn't do anything there. So we worked on both ends, neck and hips, and got some movement there. I'm going back next week.

Cut for a bunch of pictures and text. )

Hmm... I guess it's our anniversary today (now that it's after midnight... :-).

Here's a Happy John in his new sweater. He definitely loves me as it was 80° in the kitchen when he tried this on for me when I was paranoid about it fitting. Whew. It fits!

I also have pink eye, which is no fun. Made a doctor's appointment.

I also found out, the day before yesterday, that I probably had some late books to return to the library.

I also knew, a week or so ago, that John's retirement lunch was going to be today and I was cludgeling my brain on how the HECK I was going to get him there without him knowing what was going on. Finally, this morning, with the doctor's appointment and the library late notice as good distractors, I made depressed noises at John about how bad a morning was and how much I hate being late on returning books and if he could go with me to return the book and I'd like a nice lunch as I was going to miss the group lunch tomorrow because of my doctor's appointment...

So he was very nice and went with me to the library and stayed with me while I returned my one day even later book (ten cents was well worth it for the excuse) and when I said I really, really needed a root beer float, he thought that the Pumphouse would be a great place to go.

So we parked, and walked in and he strode up to the front desk and asked for a table for two. When the lady asked me if I wanted a booth or a table I asked, "Where's the Xilinx party?" She said, "Oh... the Ex-e-links party is upstairs..." so I walked away and heard John going, "Hey, what's happening?"

So I took his hand and he said, "Oh, maaan...." and grinned as I walked him up the stairs and there were about 25 people all seated for lunch and they all said, "HEY! Rosty!" Hee.

It was good. He was very surprised and very pleased. He likes surprises. I tried pretty hard to surprise him and he had no idea until he walked up the stairs, so that was very, very keen. We had a good lunch, people congratulated him, some said good-bye, and it was good, all in all.

I was sneaky.
