It's been a while since I've written anything, really...

I've been gaming instead, and letting that use my hands and mind up enough that I didn't really think about it. There's something that I love about being able to turn my mind off in the middle of a game.  Just exist and do for a while and not have to feel or think. And, even then, I find that I have to create things, so I've been making my YouTube channel work.

But I really miss my accounts of all my travels. We've been traveling a lot lately.

So since about March, we've been watching church from home, at first via Zoom and now through YouTube.

Of course, John, being John, helped lead the charge to get the service online and streamlining the process so that instead of having four or even five people sometimes to get it to stream properly, we're now down to two volunteers and one of our staff doing the work to get all the sound, cameras, and video prompting to work.

For most of the last week we've had snow. Thick snow, heavy, wet spring snow, and for a full day and a half it lay nearly a foot thick everywhere. Jet and I had a blast going out and sledding and building snow men, because the usual Colorado snow falls when it's so cold the stuff is powder dry and can't pack worth a darn.

Yesterday, the temperatures got into the 60's, and everything was melting.

We went out walking in the afternoon and the sound of dripping, running water was everywhere. It was absolutely wonderful! All the grass has gone green, and the local weather report says that Longmont is even with its annual average of precipitation for the first time in a few years, and the state as a whole now has 75% of its usual snow pack, so we'll actually have some water this summer, unlike the last few years, which have had unusually warm springs.

TV and movie watching, writing, knitting, and painting things I've been doing... )

I have always hatred recognition systems for things like typing. Speech recognition, at least, isn't all that slow, but handwriting recognition is pretty doable, but so SLOW compared to just typing. But I've noticed that when I get the Dragon Naturally Speaking fired up and running, I actually speak quite differently than I type. My language is different. It's why, when I write sermon parts, I have to read them aloud before they're finalized to make sure that they actually fit spoken language rather than written.

Sometimes it just cleans up the language, really.

I succumbed to temptation, today. )

An actual, four-legged robot that works bizarrely well.

Here's a video of it walking on some pretty tricky terrain.

I like what reality serves up every once in a while.  Wow.  Now I want  the tachigomi.
