Some Tries and a Fail
May. 30th, 2008 10:41 amOkay, the pictures are a little fuzzy... but some of the painting's a little fuzzy too. Got a little impatient and did some painting on still wet areas when I probably should have just let it dry and go. But I really like doing a painting in a "breath" the way it's supposed to be done...

I like the second one better, I think, than the first... with the old, broken-off, dead bamboo next to the pliant young one.
So this is the complete fail... as I didn't do nearly anything right. *laughter* But I'll get it eventually and this'll be fun to compare against. Didn't get the pine bark right, got impatient with the bark, didn't do the rock/mountain/cliff right at *ALL* and I have to go back to Torry Pines to see how the darn pine actually grow from the cliffs to have even a decent idea as to the angle on the roots and trunk. But.. it was a passing fancy and I had a little ink left. *grin*

Date: 2008-05-31 01:45 am (UTC)I keep learning. Did some orchids today... the color gradation on the brush has always been kind of hard for me, but I'm having fun testing it a lot.

Date: 2008-05-31 04:31 am (UTC)Wow... talk about just doing or being good at different things!!
I'm getting to be better a brush calligraphy, with lots of practice of characters I can't even really read. It's funny 'cause I can compose lots of characters with pretty good proportions and still have no clue what they mean. That poetry site you gave me is really, really cool... I should do a few of those as my practice, then I'd actually know what I was writing.
I seem to be pretty good at this and at watercolor, both of which my artist friend at work told me are "totally out of control art forms" and I was like... buh, thinking of all the control of the brush I have to have in both instances. But even I don't exactly know how it's going to turn out until it's done.

Date: 2008-05-31 06:28 am (UTC)Well... here's my name (http://www.flickr.com/photos/liralenli/1579071352/in/set-72157600101327917/), but I wrote it a very long while ago. I haven't had more recent pictures of my calligraphy practice as I pretty much just throw it away, mostly. *giggles*
It's still just straight characters, no script, yet.
