Work is, as mildly expected, eating my hands again, so I am trying not to write on my days off, much. Even the dictation software takes some wrangling.

We did a ton of stuff over the very hot weekend, though, for me, it was mostly gardening and leg exercises just to keep circulation up. Digging and heavy work, as long as they don't inflame the tendons as much as they exercise the muscles, seemed to only help. But I spent a lot of time with ice packs on.

Jet went to Haley's birthday party at a very nice bowling alley and we all had a blast as he bowled with rails and a ball he could barely lift against his chest with both arms. Every roll was something of a victory. He even tied the high scores from the six-year-olds in his lane, though he was a good head shorter than all of them. That was pretty cool. It was great seeing Ray, Joan, Alex, and Haley again.

The one thing I really want to remember is that John finished building the big, wood playset this weekend and the kids were all over it. Then, late last night, in the last of the warm twilight the three of us were out in the backyard and John and I were talking while Jet was swinging. Jet was just pumping away happily, regular as clockwork, tick tick tick. Vicariously, I enjoyed his enjoyment of the motion, made for no reason other than itself. Ah, kids and summer.

Puffy hands are not my friends. Ice is my hands' friends. They feel much better now.

Too much work happening. The in-house massage therapist was just clucking over me. "You NEED to ice this."

Sigh.

The J's and I went supermarket shopping after we picked up Jet from school. We had a great dinner of a nice, juicy ribeye that John and I split between us, grill-roasted fingerling potatoes (Costco were selling them a while back), and grilled asparagus. It was a very yummy dinner.

Yesterday's dinner was more asparagus, baked tilapia fillets, and "yellow" Annie's shells and aged Wisconsin cheddar. It's felt odd to cook so often, as tired as I am from work, I usually don't go to the effort, but I'm tired of eating out, too. The meals were quite good. Jet actually ate the boxed mac and cheese! Wahhoo!

He also ate strawberries dipped in melted chocolate tonight. More fruit! AND after Easter, he's been eating hard boiled eggs with salt. Just like all the other kids, he despises the yolk, but hey, more fat-free protein, I'm all for that. So the doc was right, as he gets more into school, peer pressure will get him to eat more foods, and then he might even get curious as to exactly what it is that Mom and Dad are eating.

We'll see.

The hat from heck is actually going apiece tonight, as I hate UFOs (UnFinished Objects). I had to swap back to my 16" Addi Turbo's from the Addi Turbo DPs, as the metal DPs with the two color stranding was killing me. I'll go to my bamboo DPs after some of the decreases for the top, but so it is. The old Addi Turbo 16" don't have the bend in the needle that makes them easier to use, I'm tempted to just bend them as no one's going to buy these off of me. I hate small circs nearly enough to go to just dps around the edge, but not quite enough to go to the long metal ones, as loosely as I knit, they just slide right out from the hat or catch in unfortunate places.

I filled in my knitting geek code, in my profile, just because I'm obsessed at the moment. It's amusing to me. Hee.

It has been quite some time since I have used my dictation software. I am fascinated by the fact that all the commands are still under my mental reach, all the correction tools and control commands are easy to bring up and remember. I really do enjoy dictating to my dragon.

My hands are getting better, however, I might as well pull this tool back out of my tool bag and use it in rotation with all the other things that I have accumulated to this point. I have a significant amount of data that have to capture in documents for my present projects, so it is better to get this limbered up for that exercise.

Jet is doing very well. We had a lot of fun setting up his Lego trains last night, and he made very little protest when he actually went to bed. I stayed up a little bit too late knitting, when I really shouldn't have been knitting. I also found my copy of V for Vendetta, and I made the mistake of opening it. I was up until nearly 1 a.m. reading it. The funny thing is that I'm not very tired today, and had plenty to do.

I strained something, yesterday, or the day before, and my right hand, yesterday, couldn't lift anything of any weight. It was a little rough, as Jet was asking to be picked up quite a few times.

Isabel and George asked to be dropped off at the local bus stop, so the three of us went with them, and dropped them off to the BOLT that went to Boulder, which connected with the airporter. They had a fairly long day getting home, but John called, last night, and they got home safely.

It's always bittersweet when they go, as we do miss them, but I'm sure they're glad to be home again, where there's oxygen and humidity and their familiar things. But the visit was great for all concerned, and they helped us when we needed it. My parents help us out, too, but it's good to give each set a turn. They appreciated the time with Jet, and we appreciated the ability to go off and do something we needed to do.

It was a good visit.

I know it's bad when my corporate massage therapist (20 minute sessions every other week at work) touches an area on my body and goes "Ouch!"

And then advises me that I really ought to get some ice on it NOW, okay, maybe after my meeting, but it had better be soon...

Okay, [livejournal.com profile] foomf, I've been warned. I'm backing quietly away from the knitting and going back to my mildly more frustrating, but infinitely more ergonomic keyboard. RSI-type problems may now be resolved, now that I'm well aware of them again.

Given that I've probably done more knitting in the last month than I've done in entire years, this is not too surprising. But I think I can back of to "just a little knitting" each evening and still stay healthy, now.
